Banh Mi Tasting Party

We had a banh mi tasting party at my apartment today (Thursday…didn’t update until “today”, Monday) with about 15 or so people.  Overall the comments were really positive!  We also had a lot of great input and some very helpful takeaways that we’ll be sure to implement.  For example:  add fresh cucumber to the lemongrass chicken tacos, chicken was a little bit too salty/soy-y, some people that never had banh mi actually liked the “dac biet” (with headcheese), asians didn’t seem to like the taco as much as other ethnic groups, people liked the rinsed pickled veggies, scallion oil was a hit, easy on the mayo…and more!  We also had some good insight into what people would be willing to pay.  To my surprise, a lot more than I expected.  $6 to $7 for a combo and $5 for a sandwich!  The combo prices actually makes sense to me, so I suppose I’m not too surprised about that.  But $5 for the sandwich is a bit surprising, since something similar typically goes for $2.50 to $4.00 in other areas.  I guess it works out sorta, since I wouldn’t know how to justify a $3.50 sandwich and a $6.00 combo…

Wish we had some pics, but Jenn, Misa and I were so busy cooking that we totally forgot!  doh!
